Nigeria is stepping up efforts to increase crude oil production to 2.5 million barrels per day, as the Federal Government intensifies investments in deepwater projects, mature oil fields and oil infrastructure security.
The target, which Nigeria last achieved in 2005, is being pursued through the revival of dormant fields, increased exploration, enhanced oil recovery and efforts to attract fresh foreign investment into the petroleum sector.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission said crude and condensate production increased from 1.48 million barrels per day in February to 1.735 million barrels per day in June 2026.
The government is also relying on improved security of oil assets in the Niger Delta to reduce crude theft and pipeline vandalism and ensure uninterrupted production.
