The Armed Forces of Nigeria said troops across the country rescued at least 48 kidnapped victims and neutralised several terrorists and other criminal elements during operations conducted between August 14 and 20, 2026.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the operations were carried out across the various theatres of operation as part of efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping, oil theft and other forms of criminality.
In the North East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai rescued three kidnapped victims in Gwamnare Forest, Bauchi State, while five others escaped their captors and reunited with their families. Two other victims were, however, killed by their abductors before troops intervened.
The military said 47 family members of terrorists, comprising women and children, surrendered to troops in Borno State between August 16 and 20, citing hunger, insecurity and factional clashes within terrorist enclaves. Six terrorist fighters also surrendered during the period.
In the North West, Operation Fansan Yamma troops rescued 28 abducted victims across Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto states. Several terrorists were also neutralised, while weapons, ammunition and motorcycles were recovered.
