The Abia State Government has sealed a building located along a river bank over concerns about the safety of the structure and its occupants.

The State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu said the building was sealed to prevent possible loss of lives.

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority, UCDA, Kingsley Agomuo, advised residents living in endangered buildings to vacate immediately. He said the owners of the affected structures have been contacted and urged to take the necessary steps.

The commissioner also disclosed that erosion control works are ongoing in Emede Ibeku community, where gully erosion has destroyed houses and large portions of land over the years.
