The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, says the ongoing expansion of the Nigerian Army to 12 divisions will strengthen national security, improve response to threats and support economic growth.

Shaibu said the creation of additional formations and units will expand the Army's operational presence, particularly in vulnerable areas, and improve its capacity to respond to emerging security challenges.

The Army Chief stated this on Tuesday while delivering a lecture to participants of Senior Executive Course 48, 2026, at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, in Kuru, Plateau State.

He said the expanded force structure will enhance the protection of communities, critical infrastructure and economic activities, while restricting the freedom of terrorists and other criminal elements.

Shaibu also stressed that the Army's role in national development goes beyond fighting insecurity.
