The Royal Belgian Football Association has withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino's bid to secure another term as FIFA president, citing concerns over transparency and governance within the global football body.

Belgium is the latest national association to distance itself from Infantino, following similar moves by football authorities in England and Italy ahead of the FIFA presidential election scheduled for March 2027. Infantino is currently the only declared candidate.

The Belgian FA said it is seeking clear explanations over FIFA's decision-making process, particularly regarding Infantino's abandoned plan to attract private investment into the World Cup.

The association also demanded transparency over FIFA's decision to suspend the ban imposed on United States forward Folarin Balogun during the recent World Cup. Balogun had been sent off against Bosnia and Herzegovina and was initially due to miss the next match against Belgium, before FIFA lifted the suspension.

Royal Belgian Football Association president Pascale Van Damme said the association's questions about the matter remained unanswered two months after the incident. The Belgian FA has formally asked FIFA to place the Balogun case on the agenda of the next FIFA Council meeting on October 15.

Infantino's leadership has faced growing criticism from several member associations, particularly over proposals involving private investors and concerns about insufficient consultation in FIFA's decision-making process.
