Benue Bans NGOs from Accessing Schools Without Authorisation, Restricts Phone Use

The Benue State Government has banned individuals, non-governmental organisations and other external bodies from accessing public and private schools without authorisation from the Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management.
The government also prohibited learners from using mobile phones during school hours, except where specifically approved for educational purposes, and banned extra lessons after regular school hours.
The State Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Margaret Adamu, announced the directives at a press conference in Makurdi today, as the new academic session commenced.
Adamu also warned against bullying, harassment, hazing, violence and the practice of learners assaulting classmates during birthday celebrations.
The commissioner further cautioned parents and guardians against assaulting, threatening, intimidating or verbally abusing teachers and other school staff, warning that violations would attract appropriate sanctions.
