The Borno State Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Youths and Sports, Saina Buba, has apologised to members of the public, particularly opposition supporters, over a controversial statement he made during an engagement organised by the City Boy Movement in Maiduguri.

Buba came under public criticism after making a remark perceived as a threat to those who opposed his position, warning that anyone who challenged them would face retaliation.

The commissioner had subsequently clarified that the remark was not directed at the opposition and was not intended to be interpreted literally.

Speaking with journalists at his office in Maiduguri, Buba formally retracted the statement and apologised for any offence it may have caused.
