Nigeria's sports landscape is set for a new dimension, following the announcement of plans by the Continental American Football League, CAFL Africa, to establish a professional American football league across 16 cities in the country.

The announcement was made by the Founder and Commissioner of CAFL Africa, Muhammad El Muhammad, during a press conference in Makurdi, Benue State.

Muhammad said the professional league is scheduled to kick off in March 2027, with the initiative expected to create employment opportunities and develop young sporting talents across the country.

The league will have a presence in major cities including Makurdi, Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Enugu, Owerri and Port Harcourt, among others.

Commissioner Muhammad also announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art American football academy in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, which will serve as a scouting and talent-development centre for young athletes.
