Delta Assembly Passes Bill to Institutionalise 13th-Month Salary

The Delta State House of Assembly has passed an executive bill seeking to institutionalise the payment of a 13th-month salary to public servants in the state.
The Assembly says the legislation will provide statutory backing and greater certainty for the annual payment of the additional salary, describing the move as a major milestone in workers' welfare.
The bill was passed after its third reading during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor. The Assembly had earlier suspended relevant standing orders to allow for the immediate consideration and passage of the bill.
Speaking after the passage, Speaker Guwor commended lawmakers for what he described as a bold step towards strengthening workers' welfare. He said the legislation demonstrates that the primary purpose of the government is to protect the security and welfare of the people.
The Speaker also said the bill reflects the state government's commitment to the well-being of its workforce.
