The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has dismissed allegations that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, obtained loans for the territory without approval from the National Assembly.

The Deputy Speaker said there is no evidence that the FCT Minister violated any law in financing projects and programmes in the territory.

He was reacting to allegations by Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory in the National Assembly, that the FCT Administration had engaged in borrowing without the required legislative approval.

Kingibe said she raised the matter with the Senate leadership after reviewing information obtained from the Debt Management Office covering the period from August 2023 to March 2026.

She explained that FCT budgets are presented to the Senate through the relevant committee before being considered and approved by the chamber.

The Deputy Speaker, however, maintained that there is no evidence of any breach of the law by the FCT Administration in its financing of projects and programmes.
