Ebola survivors in Beni, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, have launched an awareness campaign among students as schools resumed last week amid a worsening outbreak.

Members of the Ebola Survivors' Association spoke to students about the disease, sharing their experiences and lessons learned as health authorities battle to contain the outbreak.

One of the survivors, Gisele Nziavake, said the campaign was aimed at raising awareness and sharing their experiences with the younger generation.

A teacher at Mapambazuko Elementary School, Rebecca Kaputu, said schools are facing serious challenges in maintaining basic health precautions.

She said although the school has water taps, students can sometimes go two, three or even four days without water. She also noted that the school does not have a thermometer for checking body temperatures.
