FG to Deploy 200 New Telecom Sites, 3,700 Towers to Connect 20 Million Nigerians

The Federal Government says at least 200 new telecommunications sites will become operational before December, as part of efforts to extend digital connectivity to more than 20 million Nigerians currently without adequate telecom services.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed this in Abuja during the commissioning of the new headquarters of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Tijani said the sites are part of a wider plan to deploy 3,700 telecommunications towers across the country, with priority given to underserved and unserved communities.
According to the minister, each tower is expected to provide connectivity to communities with between 5,000 and 10,000 residents, potentially bringing more than 20 million Nigerians into the digital network.
He said the project was initiated following a directive from President Bola Tinubu to expand telecommunications services to communities still disconnected from the country's digital infrastructure.
