A devastating fire that broke out today in Indonesia has killed 11 people, including six children, and destroyed at least 40 kiosks and houses.

According to reports, the blaze raged for more than three hours, despite the efforts of firefighters who deployed multiple fire trucks and water cannons in an attempt to bring it under control.

A local official said the intensity of the fire, combined with the tightly packed arrangement of houses and roadside stalls in the affected area, made it extremely difficult for emergency crews to contain the flames quickly.

The fire caused widespread destruction as it spread through the densely built-up area, destroying homes and businesses and leaving several families affected by the tragedy.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine what caused the fire. Officials are yet to disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding the outbreak or whether any additional people were injured or displaced.
