Britain's former Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his resignation from Parliament, saying he intends to focus on international affairs after a turbulent two years in office.
Starmer, who stepped down as Labour Party leader earlier this summer, said on Tuesday that it was the right time to leave his Holborn and St Pancras constituency in London, which he has represented for 11 years.
In a statement posted on social media, Starmer said he would now turn his attention to issues including defence, security, trade and technology as the international landscape continues to change rapidly.
According to reports, Starmer has informed the Labour Party of his decision to leave Parliament, ending a political career in the House of Commons that spanned more than a decade, including six years as Labour leader. His departure will trigger a by-election in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency.
