G7 foreign ministers are calling on Iran to end its alleged arming and support of the Houthi movement in Yemen. In a joint statement, the ministers also condemned what they described as Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.

The G7 said a recent escalation in fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces in Yemen poses a threat to regional and global energy security.

Thousands of refugees have reportedly fled Yemen in recent days, following the Houthis' seizure of territory along the Red Sea coast, including areas near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a key gateway for global shipping.

Iran denies supplying weapons to the Houthis, saying its support for the group is political.

The G7 statement comes ahead of the annual United Nations General Assembly in New York, where Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is expected to address world leaders.
