IGP Expresses Concern Over Citizens Recording Police Officers, Says Practice Demoralising

Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has expressed concern over the increasing practice of citizens recording police officers with their mobile phones, describing the trend as demoralising for members of the force.
Disu spoke in Abuja during a meeting with the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, and members of the NBA executive committee. The meeting was aimed at addressing recurring disagreements between lawyers and police officers.
The IGP said a recent court judgment concerning the recording of police officers had caused concern within the police, noting that citizens subsequently began recording officers in various locations.
According to him, the practice had gone beyond situations where officers were performing official duties in public, with some individuals allegedly recording policemen in private settings such as restaurants.
Disu said the development had become a source of concern and is affecting the morale of officers. The police chief particularly appealed to citizens not to turn officers into subjects for social media skits or other forms of online entertainment.
