The Independent National Electoral Commission is considering a mock presidential election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise is expected to test voter accreditation, electronic transmission of results and result viewing under conditions similar to those of an actual election day.
INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja while speaking at the 13th Annual International Conference of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria.
Amupitan, whose keynote address was delivered by National Commissioner Sani Adam, said the credibility of elections goes beyond the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and result sheets. He stressed that public understanding and trust in electoral information are also critical to the credibility of the electoral process.
The INEC chairman called for closer integration of electoral technology and communication ahead of the 2027 polls. He also warned that artificial intelligence driven disinformation poses a major threat to the credibility of elections.
