Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has launched a one-million-dollar climate resilience project aimed at protecting vulnerable farming communities from the effects of floods, drought, soil degradation and post-harvest losses.

The 12-month intervention, titled 'Protecting Food Security Against Recurring Floods and Drought', will initially be implemented in Bindawa, Bakori and Kafur Local Government Areas.

The project is being implemented by Mercy Corps Nigeria in collaboration with the Katsina State Development Management Board and the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

Speaking at the launch in Katsina, Governor Radda described climate change as an unavoidable threat to the state's agricultural economy. He said the government and development partners must take practical measures to protect livelihoods and food production.

Radda, who described Katsina as an agrarian state where many residents depend heavily on agriculture, said protecting land and water resources would help increase food production, household incomes and economic stability.
