Meloni's Government Becomes Longest-Serving in Italian Republic History

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has marked a major political milestone after her government became the longest-serving administration in the history of the Italian Republic.
Meloni's government reached 1,413 days in office today, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days held by Silvio Berlusconi's second administration, which governed from 2001 to 2005.
In a post on X, Meloni described the achievement as a moment of gratitude and responsibility, stressing that political stability is important for effective governance and long-term national planning.
Meloni said her administration had focused on increasing employment, supporting families and businesses, strengthening security and improving Italy's position on the international stage. The Italian prime minister attributed the government's longevity to the unity of her centre-right coalition rather than the efforts of any individual.
Meloni also noted that the three longest-serving governments in the history of the Italian Republic were all centre-right administrations. She credited Italian voters for making the government's continued tenure possible after giving the coalition their support in the 2022 general election. She added that voters would ultimately decide whether her government deserved to continue.
Meloni said she would later meet supporters of her Fratelli d'Italia party in Bari, where she would reflect on the administration's achievements and discuss its plans for the future.
