Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has directed the State Police Advisory Committee to subject its draft report on the proposed establishment of state police to wider stakeholder consultations before finalising the document.

Governor Mutfwang gave the directive when the committee presented its progress report to him at the New Government House in Rayfield, Jos.

The Governor described state police as a necessary step towards strengthening Nigeria's internal security architecture. He said decentralised policing would help address the country's evolving security challenges more effectively.

Mutfwang also commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as bold steps towards achieving true federalism, particularly efforts to decentralise the nation's security architecture.

According to the Governor, the current centralised structure of the Nigeria Police Force is too large to achieve optimal effectiveness.

He said allowing states to establish and manage their own police formations would enable them to respond more effectively to security challenges peculiar to their communities.
