The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has disclosed that it destroyed regulated products worth more than N1.5tn in a coordinated operation across Lagos and the South-East between February and March 2025.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye, disclosed this today in Lagos, saying the action formed part of the agency's broader campaign against counterfeit, fake and substandard products.

Adeyeye said simultaneous raids at Idumota Market in Lagos, Onitsha Market and Ariaria International Market in Aba resulted in the seizure and destruction of more than 137 truckloads of 40-foot containers containing counterfeit and substandard goods.

She described counterfeiters as merchants of death and reaffirmed NAFDAC's commitment to a zero-tolerance approach to the production and distribution of unsafe regulated products.

The agency also disclosed that it had secured 64 convictions for counterfeiting, with offenders receiving prison sentences ranging from one to seven years without the option of a fine. She urged Nigerians to report suspected fake or non-compliant products directly to NAFDAC through its official complaint channels rather than relying solely on social media.
