The inaugural National Intermediate Games, earlier scheduled to take place in Lagos from October 1st to 15th, 2026, have been postponed to the first quarter of 2027.

The postponement is to allow for further preparations and ensure the delivery of a successful, world-class sporting event.

The Lagos State Sports Commission formally communicated the decision to the National Sports Commission following a comprehensive review of preparations by the Local Organising Committee, the NSC and an independent Quality Control and Assurance Specialist.

The review, which followed a joint technical meeting held from September 3rd to 6th, assessed proposed venues, sporting events, technical requirements, rules and regulations, as well as other key operational areas.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media in the Office of the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Kola Daniel, the assessment found that the Games could technically proceed.
