Nigeria is set to renew its campaign for permanent representation on the United Nations Security Council, as Vice-President Kashim Shettima leads the country's engagements at the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.

The country will also push for broader reforms of the United Nations, stronger development outcomes for developing countries and increased international investment in Nigeria.

Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, disclosed this while briefing Vice-President Shettima on the country's priorities for the General Assembly.

The meeting reviewed Nigeria's agenda, expectations and strategic engagements during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice-President, Stanley Nkwocha, Nigeria will build on positions advanced during previous UN engagements.

He said the country would continue to advocate reforms aimed at making the multilateral system more responsive to the needs and interests of developing countries.
