The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, has called on global technology giants and local infrastructure developers to invest in Nigeria's information technology infrastructure.

Inuwa gave the assurance that such investments would generate significant returns, as the country seeks to transform from a consumer of offshore digital services into West Africa's leading cloud computing hub.

Speaking at a workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, during ITW Data Cloud Africa 2026, the NITDA Director-General outlined the government's plans to provide regulatory certainty, create structured demand and develop a sovereign cloud ecosystem capable of serving more than 230 million Nigerians and the wider region.

He said Nigeria currently faces a major economic gap, with much of its computing capacity and digital value being processed through foreign servers despite huge domestic demand.

Inuwa also disclosed that local data capacity is operating at nearly 90 per cent utilisation, forcing the country to depend heavily on offshore digital resources.
