The Plateau State Government has commenced a crackdown on houses in Jos South Local Government Area without functional toilet facilities. The affected households have been given seven days to comply with the directive or face prosecution.

The enforcement is being carried out by the Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency, PEPSA, following sustained efforts to improve sanitation through community engagements, public enlightenment and support for vulnerable households.

The initiative is being implemented under the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene, SURWASH, programme.

The Director-General of PEPSA, Samuel Nathaniel Dapiya, said the agency has commenced serving final abatement notices on houses yet to provide functional toilet facilities.

Dapiya said PEPSA had previously engaged communities and households, educating residents on the importance of providing and using proper toilet facilities.
