The Benue State Police Command has paraded 46 suspects in connection with the reported attack and blockade of the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, along the Makurdi-Gboko federal highway.

The suspects were paraded today as the police continued investigations into Tuesday's incident, which occurred while Obi was visiting Benue State as part of his political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Addressing journalists in Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, said the investigation is still ongoing, adding that key leaders believed to be connected to the youths involved in the blockade were being trailed.

Nwadiogbu warned that the command would not tolerate political intolerance or violence, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

The incident occurred when Obi's convoy encountered a roadblock mounted by youths along the two-lane Makurdi-Gboko federal highway, shortly after leaving the airport.

The youths reportedly blocked the road and chanted for Obi to return, resulting in significant traffic congestion as motorists were unable to pass through the affected section. The police investigation into the incident continues as efforts are intensified to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly involved in the blockade.
