A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex says Prince Harry and Meghan were surprised to learn of a letter sent on behalf of King Charles, clarifying that they remain non-working members of the Royal Family.

The couple, who have recently moved back to the United Kingdom, were reportedly not informed in advance that the letter would be made public.

However, royal sources say Harry and Meghan were made aware of the letter before it was released on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a security committee that includes representatives of the UK Home Office is expected to meet this week to review the level of taxpayer-funded security that should be provided to the Sussexes, now that they are resident in the UK.

The Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as Ravec, is responsible for determining security arrangements for members of the Royal Family and other public figures.
