Three African goalkeepers have been nominated for the 2026 Ballon d'Or Men's Goalkeeper of the Year award, known as the Yashin Trophy.

Morocco's Yassine Bounou, Senegal's Edouard Mendy and Cape Verde's Vozinha were included among the 10 nominees announced by France Football.

The shortlist recognises goalkeeping performances between August 2025 and July 2026, including displays at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Vozinha earned his nomination following an outstanding campaign with Cape Verde, who made their World Cup debut. The 40-year-old goalkeeper produced impressive performances against eventual champions Spain and Argentina.

Bounou, meanwhile, was nominated after another strong period with Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal and the Moroccan national team. The experienced goalkeeper remains one of Africa's most prominent shot-stoppers and previously won CAF's top individual goalkeeper award.

Senegal international Mendy also made the shortlist. The former Chelsea goalkeeper remains one of Africa's most decorated players in his position, having achieved major success at both club and international level. The inclusion of Bounou, Mendy and Vozinha gives Africa three representatives among the 10 goalkeepers shortlisted for the Yashin Trophy.

The winner is expected to be announced at the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony in London next month.
