President Bola Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria this week after spending several weeks abroad on what his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described as a working vacation.

Onanuga, in a post on X, said the President is hale and hearty and has continued to discharge his official responsibilities while away from the country, dismissing concerns over his absence from Abuja and the ongoing United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He explained that President Tinubu does not necessarily need to be physically present in Abuja to perform his duties as President, particularly in the digital age.

The presidential aide pointed to the President's engagements with investors in France, including his reported role in facilitating a seven-billion-dollar deep-sea port project in Ogun Waterside, as evidence of his continued official activities while abroad.

President Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for an initially scheduled three-week annual vacation, travelling first to London before proceeding to Paris. The Presidency later announced an extension of his stay.

Onanuga said President Tinubu is expected back in the country this week to participate in activities marking Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary. He is also expected to attend the Lagos premiere of a film commemorating the late businessman and democracy advocate, Moshood Abiola.
