Ride hailing company Uber has announced its exit from Nigeria after 12 years of operations in the country.
The company said it would wind down its Nigerian operations with immediate effect, following what it described as a thorough review of its business.
In a statement to users, Uber said that after a thorough review of the business, it had made the tough decision to wind down operations in Nigeria.
The company, which launched in Lagos in 2014, thanked Nigerians for using its platform to connect with independent transportation providers over the years.
Uber acknowledged that its departure could disrupt the routines of riders and assured drivers, riders and its local employees of support during the transition.
The decision brings an end to Uber's 12 year presence in Nigeria, during which its services expanded from Lagos to several other cities across the country.
