UNIPORT ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike Over Unimplemented Agreement, Unpaid Salaries

The University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has declared an indefinite strike over the alleged failure to implement the Federal Government and ASUU agreement signed in December 2025.
The branch chairperson, Professor Omeh Obasi Ngwoke, said the industrial action was also prompted by alleged illegalities within the institution.
Ngwoke said the union had held several engagements with the university management and exercised patience in the hope that its outstanding salaries would be paid in full, in accordance with federal government directives.
However, he stated that the union could no longer tolerate the continued non-payment of salaries, forcing it to embark on strike.
