Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has ordered the immediate suspension of all village and ward heads in Mallam-Fatori, headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area.
The governor issued the directive following the absence of the traditional leaders during his visit to the community, where residents displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency are returning to rebuild their homes.
Zulum said the absence of the traditional leaders was unacceptable, particularly at a time when the community was undergoing reconstruction and residents were returning.
He directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mele, to work with the Shehu of Borno to begin the appointment of new village and ward heads. He said the new leaders must be people of integrity, competence and commitment who can work with residents, government authorities and security agencies to restore stability.
The governor also visited the 68 Battalion Nigerian Army headquarters, where he commended the troops for their efforts in securing the area and assured them of continued support from the state government.
