Abia Reviews Ageing Policy to Strengthen Senior Citizens’ Welfare

The Abia State Government has concluded the review of a draft policy framework aimed at implementing the Abia State Senior Citizens Centre Law No. 4 of 2025. The review was completed at a two-day stakeholders’ validation workshop on the draft Abia State Policy on Ageing, which ended in Umuahia on Tuesday. The workshop, themed “Stronger Policies, Greater Inclusion, A Brighter Future for Senior Citizens,” was organised by the state government in collaboration with the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection. Speaking at the event, the Social Policy Officer at the United Nations Children’s Fund, Enugu Field Office, Victor Chima, said the policy is important to the state’s social protection agenda. Chima assured that UNICEF and the International Labour Organisation would continue to support the state in strengthening its social protection system and ensuring the effective implementation of policies designed to improve the welfare of vulnerable groups.
