The Federal Government has called on the Nigeria Police Force to immediately arrest and prosecute the suspect who allegedly stabbed a health worker at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Salako, condemned the reported attack on Lawal Olasunkanmi, a medical laboratory scientist at the hospital, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable. In a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the minister said no grievance or dissatisfaction with medical care could justify violence against health workers performing their lawful duties. Salako said the incident underscored the urgent need to strengthen measures aimed at protecting health personnel in federal tertiary hospitals. He said the measures include improved security arrangements, violence-prevention teams, incident reporting systems, collaboration with law-enforcement agencies and better complaint-handling procedures.
