The Federal Government says achieving single-digit inflation remains its ultimate economic target, as it projects economic growth of more than four per cent in 2026. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this during a media briefing and interactive session with senior editors in Abuja. Idris said inflation had declined from about 27 per cent in January 2025 to approximately 15 per cent, attributing the improvement to the structural reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu's administration. He said the government remained committed to reducing inflation further while strengthening the economy and protecting citizens' welfare. The minister also disclosed that Nigeria's external reserves exceeded 54 billion dollars in September, reaching their highest level in nearly two decades. According to him, the country recorded a current account surplus of 12 billion dollars in the first half of 2026, compared with 8.6 billion dollars during the corresponding period in 2025. Idris further said domestic crude oil production had increased following a reduction in oil theft, while non-oil exports generated more than six billion dollars in 2025, the highest earnings recorded in the country's history.
