FIBA Congratulates Mustapha Abdullahi on Election as NBBF President

The International Basketball Federation, FIBA, has congratulated Mustapha Abdullahi on his election as President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF.
The world basketball governing body also congratulated members of the newly elected board, who will serve a four-year term from 2026 to 2030, following the federation’s elective congress held in Abuja on October 15, 2026.
In a letter signed by FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, the organisation acknowledged receipt of the NBBF’s official communication on the election.
FIBA also commended the federation’s commitment to good governance, constitutional compliance and adherence to its regulations.
Abdullahi, who is the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, emerged victorious after polling 40 votes to defeat former D’Tigers captain, Olumide Oyedeji, who secured eight votes. Another former international, Ejike Ugboaja, received no votes.
Following his election, Abdullahi pledged to expand opportunities for young basketball players and strengthen the development of the sport across Nigeria. He also recalled his passion for basketball, revealing that he once borrowed money to purchase a pair of basketball shoes.
