INEC Moves to Prevent Inconclusive Elections in 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said it is taking steps to prevent inconclusive elections during the 2027 general elections. INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, stated this on Tuesday at the World Press Conference and National Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja. Amupitan said the commission has learnt valuable lessons from recent off-cycle governorship elections in Anambra, Ekiti and Osun states, which would guide its preparations for the 2027 polls. He said INEC is strengthening its electoral management processes to ensure that the outcome of the elections reflects the will of the electorate. The INEC chairman assured Nigerians that the commission would take all necessary measures within its mandate to deliver free, fair, transparent and credible elections. Amupitan also urged political parties, candidates, voters and other stakeholders to cooperate with the commission in ensuring peaceful and credible elections.
