Manchester City have defeated Liverpool three-nil at Anfield to maintain their three-point lead at the top of the English Premier League table. The victory on Sunday marked City’s first match since an independent commission found the club guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules, a verdict they are appealing. Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki scored in the second half to seal the victory for the league leaders, who have won all six of their matches this season. Liverpool were reduced to ten men shortly before Haaland opened the scoring, following the dismissal of Ryan Gravenberch for a second bookable offence. Doku doubled City’s advantage with a superb strike before Cherki completed the scoring to hand Liverpool their first defeat under new manager Andoni Iraola. The result strengthens City’s position at the summit as they continue to challenge for another league title, despite the ongoing financial case.
