Messi set up Nicolás Otamendi for the opening goal in the 48th minute before assisting Nico Paz for Argentina’s second in the 61st minute. The Inter Miami forward then converted a penalty in the 71st minute to complete the 3-0 victory. Messi was directly involved in all three goals as Argentina celebrated the end of an illustrious international career in front of more than 85,000 spectators. The 39-year-old leaves the national team as Argentina’s most-capped player, with 208 appearances, and its all-time leading scorer with 126 goals.
