Reps Summon Navy, Police, Customs, Immigration, NMDPRA over Recovered Assets

The House of Representatives has summoned five government agencies to appear before its Sub-Committee on Public Assets on November second over the management of seized, forfeited and recovered assets in Nigeria.
The agencies are the Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA. The committee is investigating how recovered assets are documented, managed and disposed of by government institutions.
Chairman of the sub-committee, Ibe Osonwa, who represents Arochukwu and Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State, announced the date during the panel’s inaugural meeting in Abuja. Osonwa said the investigation would establish a comprehensive record of recovered assets held by government agencies, develop a unified digital registry and identify weaknesses in existing management systems.
He noted that concerns had persisted across successive administrations over transparency, coordination and accountability in the handling of assets recovered through law enforcement operations and other statutory processes.
