Senate Urges Deployment of More Troops to Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi Borders After Deadly Attack

The Senate has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to deploy additional troops and establish security outposts along the borders of Taraba, Plateau and Bauchi states following a bandit attack that reportedly killed about 80 people in Taraba State.
The attack on Binari community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State left dozens of residents dead, displaced hundreds of people and destroyed property. The resolution followed a motion moved by the senator representing Taraba North, Isa Lau, who drew the attention of the Senate to the growing insecurity and humanitarian crisis in his constituency.
Lau said communities along the borders of Taraba, Plateau and Bauchi states remained vulnerable to attacks due to the routes allegedly used by armed groups to launch their operations. He stressed that the government had a constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, warning that failure to take urgent action could result in further killings, economic losses and displacement of residents.
