Tinubu Extends Tenures of Correctional, Immigration Service Chiefs by 18 Months

President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap. Under the arrangement, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will end on June 30, 2028. The extension followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address succession gaps and allow sufficient time for the relevant boards to appoint their successors. The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the development in a statement. According to the statement, the President approved the extensions in recognition of the reforms undertaken by the two service chiefs since their appointments. Tinubu commended both officers for their contributions to institutional reforms in the Correctional and Immigration Services and directed them to consolidate the progress recorded under their leadership. The extension is expected to ensure continuity in the leadership of the two agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior while preparations are made for an orderly transition.
