Tinubu Says Reforms Will Reverse Decades of Economic Underperformance

President Bola Tinubu says his administration is working to rewrite Nigeria’s decades-long history of economic underperformance through reforms aimed at unlocking the country’s economic potential.
Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, stated this at the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja. The President said his administration took difficult economic decisions at the beginning of its tenure to address structural challenges that had hindered the country’s growth and development for decades.
He stressed that there was no shortcut to economic growth, noting that the government had embarked on a difficult economic reset to lay a sustainable foundation for national prosperity. Tinubu said the reforms were designed to remove longstanding economic barriers, boost productivity and create more opportunities for Nigerians across various sectors.
He added that the goal of economic recovery went beyond improving economic indicators to improving citizens’ livelihoods. According to the President, the administration is focused on transforming the fortunes of young jobseekers, farmers, manufacturers, entrepreneurs and innovators.
Tinubu also emphasised that economic stability was essential to harnessing the opportunities presented by Nigeria’s growing population and abundant human and natural resources.
