President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve a bill seeking to repeal the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria Act and establish the National School of Government to strengthen leadership development and improve public officials’ capacity to implement government policies. The President’s request was conveyed in a letter transmitting the National School of Government Bill 2026 to the Senate for consideration. Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter during plenary today. In the letter, president Tinubu urged lawmakers to give the proposed legislation expeditious consideration, stressing the need for a dedicated institution focused on leadership development, policy delivery and executive capacity building. He expressed hope that the Senate would give the bill the necessary attention to facilitate its consideration and passage. The proposed legislation seeks to repeal the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria Act, A-4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and replace it with a new legal framework for establishing the National School of Government, Nigeria. If passed into law, the institution would serve as a national centre for leadership training, policy implementation and executive capacity development. The initiative is aimed at equipping public officials with the leadership skills, knowledge and expertise needed to translate government policies into effective programmes and deliver improved public services.
