Tinubu Urges Governors to Invest Increased Revenues in Healthcare, Education

President Bola Tinubu has called on state governments to ensure the prudent use of increased revenues, with emphasis on healthcare, education and infrastructure development. The President made the call following the release of the World Bank’s October 2026 Nigeria Development Update, which highlighted increased revenues accruing to states amid ongoing economic reforms. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, president Tinubu attributed the revenue growth to measures introduced by his administration, including petrol subsidy removal, foreign exchange market unification and fiscal discipline. He said the gains must translate into improved living standards, lower food prices and more job opportunities for Nigerians. The Presidency said the World Bank report showed that Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.2 per cent in the first half of 2026, compared with 3.9 per cent in the same period last year. President Tinubu urged governors to channel the additional funds into projects that directly improve citizens’ welfare, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive economic growth.
