Two men have been charged under the United Kingdom’s National Security Act 2023 following a police investigation into a suspected terror plot at RAF Fairford.

The suspects, identified as 24-year-old Mohmed Abdulkarim and 24-year-old Nouman Essghir, are both from London. Abdulkarim, from Westminster, is charged with assisting a foreign intelligence service.

He is accused of engaging in conduct likely to materially assist a foreign intelligence service in activities relating to the United Kingdom. Counter-terrorism police said he was believed to have been assisting Iran.

Essghir, meanwhile, faces one charge of entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the United Kingdom. The charges follow the arrest of five men in their early twenties near RAF Fairford on September 27, after one of the men reportedly contacted the police.

A local farmer also called emergency services after receiving no response when she contacted the guardroom at the United States strategic airbase in Gloucestershire. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
