UN Deputy Chief Urges Nigerians to Project Economic Reforms Positively to Investors

United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed has urged Nigerians to communicate the country’s economic reforms and development prospects with greater confidence, stressing that domestic perceptions play a significant role in shaping international investor confidence.
Speaking during a fireside chat titled “Africa’s Next Development Frontier: Inclusive Growth, Resilience, and Human Dignity” at the 2026 Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, Mohammed highlighted the need for Nigerians to acknowledge progress while remaining honest about the challenges facing the economy.
She acknowledged public frustration over decades of economic policy discussions that are yet to deliver the expected results for many citizens. Mohammed noted that Nigerians must examine the factors preventing the country from fully realising its economic potential rather than continuing to repeat familiar promises without sufficient progress.
She urged citizens and business leaders to adopt a more balanced perspective by recognising achievements, however modest, while working towards further improvements.
