Asian Football Confederation joins UEFA and CONCACAF in rejecting investment plans

The Asian Football Confederation has joined UEFA and CONCACAF in opposing FIFA's proposal to sell stakes in its competitions to private investors, dealing another setback to the governing body's commercial plans.
The AFC stated that it was aligning with the two confederations, arguing that the proposal lacked the broad consensus needed to move forward.
The continental football body maintained that the FIFA World Cup draws its strength from the participation of all confederations and the world's leading football nations. It warned that any move capable of undermining the unity and universal nature of the tournament should be reconsidered.
The AFC's position adds significant weight to growing opposition against the proposal and reduces the likelihood of it securing enough support if it is eventually presented for a vote.
