Germany has appointed Jürgen Klopp as head coach of its national football team, with the former Liverpool manager taking charge of the four-time world champions as they seek to rebuild following a series of disappointing tournament performances.

The German Football Federation announced the appointment on Friday after weeks of speculation. Klopp has signed a contract that will keep him in the role through the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, as well as the centenary matches scheduled to be played in South America that year.

The 59-year-old succeeds Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down earlier this month following Germany's last-32 elimination by Paraguay at the World Cup. The defeat marked Germany's third consecutive early exit from the tournament since winning the World Cup in 2014.
