Team Nigeria has moved into the top five on the medals table at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after winning three more gold medals in weightlifting.

Nigeria's total medal count is now 10 medals including six gold and four silver, making it the highest-ranked African nation at the Games. The National Sports Commission revealed that weightlifters Edidiong Umoafia, Onome Didih and Rafiatu Lawal delivered the three gold medals.

Umoafia won the men's 71-kilogram event with a combined lift of 319 kilograms, Didih claimed the women's 53-kilogram title with a Commonwealth Games record total of 203 kilograms, while Lawal successfully defended her women's 58-kilogram title. The commission congratulated the athletes, coaches and team officials for their performances.

However, the latest update from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games website shows Nigeria has slipped to fifth place after Scotland moved ahead with six gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
